Hannah, I have tried quite allot of different things, as I said
before! I think that the best thing to do is to henna ALL of your
hair, like you said that you did, first several times with body
quality henna. Then, add the indigo (I mixed walnut powder with
indigo powder together with the henna after I got dye release on
each separately. I do the henna overnight to get dye release from
it, and then add the indigo after getting dye release from it per
instructions here). You can use up to 50% indigo to the henna when
you put it on your head. But for me, I think that doing pure henna
one time (with maybe a little walnut powder added 3T. or so at very
light dye release of henna) and then doing only indigo with maybe 25
grams henna powder the next time works better. It has more shine
that way. I do find that if I use just indigo powder with the
henna alone (without walnut powder) that I get that greenish cast to
the gray that picks up the indigo more around my face hairline. I
don't know if that is because I wash my face with soap and always
get it into the hairline and the alkalinity of the soap turns it
this color or what? I think that it might be that but not sure.
But if I add the walnut powder..this is not a problem for some
reason. When I used the indigo only, I did it just like the indigo
page said to do it here only I waited a day or two because of
uncontrolled events. Next time i might try doing the indigo right
away after using the henna like Catherine did with her daughter. It
really didn't turn my hair black at all like it did her daughters
hair, but I am basically silver to start with, not a brownette.
Does any of this make sense? But I am a person who is always
willing to experiment allot and if I don't like it I will cut it all
off and be just as happy! I don't have maybe as much invested in my
hair (or feel that I do) as much as maybe some of you do that do
have extremely youthful and/or beautiful hair. But I have always
been willing to change that way! It does upset my husband sometimes
though, that I do that so I have to be careful because of my love
and respect for him. But I am basically wild that way, I guess. He
likes the lighter orange that henna gives me....I like dark colors.
