: Hannah, I am sorry, I went off on my own tangent there on my last
: post! At the chance of sounding too bossy on here as I am prone to
: do sometimes...I think that your question could be answered more
: like this! Since you are going through that startled stage of just
: beginning henna....try using walnut powder with the henna instead of
: the indigo powder. I think that you will probably like that better
: anyway...not so startling, very pleasing affect (effect?) for us old
: ladies. Also, you can take a small ammount of henna powder (say 25
: grams or about 3 T.) and mix with 2T. lemon juice and a little warm
: water...and terps too if you like, in a small cup (there will only
: be about 1/2 cup or so of mix). Cover, put your white tissue to
: indicate dye release, let sit overnight (or required time) for dye
: release. Then (after "strong" dye release as indicated by orange
: stain on tissue) go in bathroom with your equipment and a basting
: brush and paint just your hairline and roots of hair by parting at
: 1/2-1 inch intervals along your head from front to back or however
: you like best. Cover painted head and keep warm for at least 3
: hours; then wash out as normal. This will be bright orange at first
: and then turn some shade of red. Do not put turmeric unless you
: like some shade of orange or want gold highlights! Makes gray very
: bright, especially in amongst dark hair. Keep trying, don't give
: up! If you keep on with the henna and don't like it much, you can
: always do your whole head with indigo only after trying just henna,
: but be prepared for a whole different look as it will darken the
: overall affect quite a bit! And then it might wash out later
: anyway...that is the part I am still watching and don't really know
: about yet. But the shine is great!

Hi Pam--thanks so much for all your help and suggestions.

My mind is reeling trying to think of ways to compensate for all the variables. I want good
stain that's not orange--but i also want something not too dark. All this and heaven too
may not be possible. I posted a question about lightening the effect of the henna and
indigo by adding cassia but it hasn't been answered yet.

I don't know where to get walnut powder. I've already ordered some indigo and cassia (just
yesterday) from Catherine which usually arrives pretty quick. But I've been wondering
where is the heat cap I ordered it si local and should have come by now !@!!

Since I can't get the walnut powder locally and I've already ordered the indigo, do you
think if I use just indigo and cassia over the henna I put on which will probably be about a
week old by that time that it will "take" well? or should I add some henna again to the new
mix?

I'm not worried about cutting my hair either and as short layers grow very fast, color can
grow out in little time. I wear my hair short at this point anyway so growing it in isn't the
major time investment (like a year or two) for me as for someone with a whole head of
long hair.

So you have to mix the henna and indigo separately?--good thing you mentioned it I
would have mixed the powders--better read up on the instructions.
