I am desperate to start using henna again. I'm 53, have fine thin
oily hair cut off to bralength. It is naturally a medium brown with
a tiny touch of red. It has been at least below shoulder length
since I was in grade school and at one point was about tailbone
length. I started hennaing it about 1974 or 1975 and continue to
henna it until the late 80's or early 90's when someone convinced me
the henna was damaging my hair.
I used what I am pretty sure was a decent henna, bought it wholesale
5 pounds at a time from a wholesale herb supplier, cut and sifted in
a fine powder. I mixed it with applecider vinegar and sometimes part
coffee and left it on all day wrapped in plastic wrap and aluminum
foil.My hair was so beautiful, no-one had a clue I colored it,it was
shiny, thicker, longer, and less split ends, and I constantly received
compliments on the color. I switched to commercial dyes maybe 10-12
years ago and had trouble getting the same orangey color I liked but
continued using them. I have had to chop off a lot of length due to
stress, maybe age, and damage from the hair dye. I am starting to
get silver gray hairs and some gray at temples. I have been spending
a lot of time at the longhaircare journal and have been using a lot
of oils, heavy conditioners,CO rinses, etc and my hair is in better
shape. My hair grows slowly so no chance of waiting till the dyed
length grows off to henna. Haven't colored in 5 weeks. I sent my
hair into Catherine for a test so I am hoping! Thanks, all.

Got pics, can't figure out how to put behind a cut so will post
others as comments so as not to clog up your board.

the only pic i could find quickly before commercial dyes.(about 1975
if you can see the length, it was hennaed then)
