Citric acid is a crystalline powder much like table sugar or salt.

You can find it in health food stores, beer and wine brewing stores
and most inexpensively at the Indian/Pakistani type ethnic markets.
If you cannot find it locally you will find it easily online from
soap-making suppliers.

In fruit preservation, you may find a variation called ascorbic acid
or vitamin C. I haven’t used it but it should work too.
