Strange-only acidic liquids work for me; never hot water.

I get the exact opposite experience with henna powder. Only an
acidic liquid will tint gray hair while hot water does absolutely
nothing.

I only add enough acidic liquid to henna powder to make a very thick
paste. Then I thin out the paste with water. The acids don’t seem
to affect anybody’s hair badly.

I don’t have much experience with indigo.
