: As I have mentioned in previous posts, I have started using Henna
: mainly in order to improve the condition of my hair in order to grow
: it long.
:
: I have always wanted long hair, but was previously using chemical
: dyes, which damaged it to the extent that I couldn't grow it beyond
: shoulder lenghth without having to get about 2 inches chopped off
due
: to split ends and frizziness. I used to have to get it cut at least
: every 2 months!
:
: I started using Henna about 2-3 months ago, and have just done my
4th
: application. I have noticed far fewer split ends and have not felt
the
: need to have my hair cut for about 5 months.
:
: I was wondering how often people who have been using henna find it
: necessary to have their hair cut? I want to go for as long as
: possible, but avoid that situation of going in and being told I will
: have to have about 5 inches chopped off due to leaving it too long!

I usually have it trimmed once a year or so, usually in May.
However, having been without henna for a whole two months, my hair
retreated to its normal state: too many split ends to deal with.
Even after the latest hennaing, I still had some bad ends, so I asked
my mom to trim them off (it's long and straight, it's an easy enough
trim). She, of course, hated the blue I'd put in at the ends, and
promptly chopped it all off under the guise of it being "too damaged"
(it wasn't--it was in as good of condition as the rest of my hair).
Lesson learned? Don't let my mother cut my hair if it's blue. I
lost 5" to her trimming spree, when I was expecting half an inch at
the most. It feels so short, coming all the way up to the bottoms of
my shoulder blades--it still hadn't recovered from the May trimming,
when it went from hips to an inch or so past my waist.
