Can henna make your hair fall out?

Hello
I hennaed my roots last night, after using bright red Lush henna for
the first time about three weeks ago (the roots were already
beginning to show!). I left it on for 2 hours, and when I washed it
off in the shower, I found that rather a lot of my hair came out
too. :-( Today it looks okay--I don't look bald--but I'm not very
happy. And I can see that I have receded slightly on one side,
though it's hidden by the way my hair falls... Normally I lose a few
hairs when I wash my hair, but this was a few big tangles. My hair
is very fine and flat so I NEED what I have! Reading this site I've
read that henna actually is good for treating hair loss. Can anybody
help explain what happened to me?
