I buy cheap henna powder from the ethnic markets all the time and I
don’t believe that any of them have been adulterated with PPD or
metal salts. They most likely have a green dye added but that is
about it. I could have been lucky but I also look closely at the
package and smell the henna powder before I purchase it. I know what
100% natural henna looks and smells like so I don’t usually have
problems.

The terpineol that has been added to the Jani cone smells just like
pine-sol. Personally I don’t think there is anything wrong with
that. I like pine-sol. It is not a problem.

To check if the henna powder has been adulterated with PPDs check the
link below. PPDs are dark dye components and the henna powder and
paste would have a very dark cast to them if they had been
adulterated. At least I would think so because I have seen Bigen
powder (pure PPD) and it is a very black powder.
