: weeks, you could see her brown roots coming in. I managed to restore
: her hair back to its natural color by using 1:1 parts of henna and
: indigo mixed together. You can't really tell the difference between
: her roots and the rest of her hair now.
doesn't her hair look red in the sunshine though?

I'm asking because I've also tried to get my henna more towards brown by adding
indigo. I find that for me, that works fine as long as I'm indoors. in certain types of
light there's no red at all. it depends on the type of lighting though - certain types of
lamps bring out more red. but in general it's brownish inside.

as soon as I get out the door, more red shows. in sunlight it's even very bright red.

anecdote to illustrate the effect: a while ago I was standing in the garden of the
building where I work. the janitor walked by to take the trash out, and was SHOCKED
to see I had 'dyed my hair' and asked WHEN I did this to myself. ehm, well, I started
about a year ago ;-). he had never noticed because he always sees me indoors.

we even did the test where I stepped inside and he said 'yes, no, it's just brown
indoors' and back outside, 'WOH, bright red!'

doesn't your mom's hair do that?

if not, I think I'll need to rethink the quality of the indigo I use, or the moment in time
I apply it...

thanks!
