long, dark brown hair

i've been trying to digest as much of the forum as possible since i
found it a few days ago (whew!), but i have some questions about henna.

i'd like to henna my hair, which is pretty long, and very dark brown.
i have some natural red highlights, as well as some gray. i'm
interested in the strengthening properties of the henna, since my hair
is prone to splits and breaks.

i'd like to retain as much of my dark brown color as possible, any
recommendations on what i can add to the mix to achieve that? i
ordered some henna, and a couple of indigo samples too (though i don't
want to dye my hair black, just keep it dark brown), to play with.

And another question, though i think i know the answer. With
butt-length hair, it's pretty much a given that hennaing will be a
2-person job, right?
