: I saw a product marketed as "henna for hair" on several web sites.
: http://www.ballbeauty.com/avigal-henna.htm is one and the other is
: sold from the just for redheads site. The product claimed that this
: henna could be used without fear over permed or commercially dyed
: hair. It also claimed that their "100% pure henna" came in several
: different shades because new shrubs of the lawsonia plant had been
: discovered and developed, yielding shades ranging from hazel, topaz
: and cognac to mahogany, brown (which has no trace of red in it),
: burgundy and black.
: It sounds like a lot of bunk to me, but is this possible?
: I'm a natural redhead who's dyed her hair auburn for several years
: and am tired of the damage to my long hair from the harsh dyes. I'd
: like to use henna but don't want to risk any further damage (or
goat
: vomit colored hair, either). Is this product worth considering?

Its funny, I came to this page inadvertently via the "Just For
Redheads" site; I'm a natural redhead too, and when I was thinking a
few months ago about starting to cover some greys and maybe perk up
my colour a bit, I saw that JFR sells "henna" and started to research
it.

You can find plenty of online Avigal retailers (sell it a lot cheaper
than the JFR company too but that's another story) but when I looked
around and found this site I was delighted. From everything I have
learned here (and I trust the information here implicitly, CCJ is an
expert on the whole subject of henna) any manufacturer that claims
they can get different "shades" using just henna is LYING. It just
can't be done. Natural henna is RED and thats all there is to it.

Having said that, I know Light Mountain, which has a loyal following,
packages their "shades" as 100% henna but they also admit that theirs
is a blend of henna, senna and indigo in varying proportions to make
the different "colours".

I've only used the body art quality henna, with excellent results. I
can't speak about Avigal or any other commercial brand. I just hate
companies lying to me about whats in their stuff! The ingredients in
Avigal may be pure botanicals but it sure ain't pure henna! Why do
they have to be misleading?

If you scour these pages, BTW, you can find a link called "whats in
that box?" or something like it, which explains all that, also the
FAQ section.
