Tara's Mix
| This is actually after my 2nd
hennaing. Here's how I did it: I started with med/dark brown hair. I did several tests using red wine or red wine vinegar. They all looked the same. So, with my first mix, I used 200g henna (from Mehandi). I mixed it with 1c red wine and 1/2c apple cider vinegar. I made a thick paste with that, adding a little more cold wine and room temp. vinegar. 3 hours later I added another 1 1/2 c. wine and 1/2 c of the vinegar (again, boiled) That sat maybe 30 minutes while I got everything ready to henna. I went to my bathroom, glopped it on. Remembered I hadn't vaselined ... did that real quickly, then finished glopping. I piled it all on top of my head, covered w/a shower cap then towel. Sat for an hour. Rinsed hanging over the tub, using a little conditioner. 3 weeks later I did henna #2, which is the picture above. I used the leftover mix from the first time, mixed in w/some fresh henna to get a nice paste. Then maybe 1/4 c heated red wine vinegar and probably about a much water. (I was worried about getting too much acidity and having itchy head again*, so tried the water) Glopped it all on, shower cap and towel, this time for 2 hrs. Again, rinsed in tub, using a little conditioner. This pic is 4 days after my 2nd henna. When I look down at it, it actually looks a bit more in the 'black cherry' range. But anyway, hope you can get an idea from the pic(s) ~Tara~ *
editors note: a very acidic mix can burn your
skin! (Vinegar compresses can cause first degree burns on
babies.) Some people have more permeable skin than others, and if
you have tender skin, go easy on the acid! |
