Pierre's Mix

| Before hennaing I had brown hair
with
gray streaks and my sideburns were all gray. My hair was thick,
but
my beard was fragile and prone to all sorts of split ends. I
mixed
100 g henna (from Mehandi)
and about 15 g clove powder with hot water and lemon
juice
(next time I'll skip trying to simmer the cloves - that's for
whole
cloves) and put the bowl (a Rubbermaid tomatoproof container) in
a pot of hot water. An hour later I stirred it with my baste bulb
and saw clearly the dye release. I added a dollop of tea tree oil,
waited a bit longer, and headed to the bathroom with the bowl. I
grabbed
big globs with my gloved hands and neaded them into my hair
and beard. I wrapped them up, put on my henna shirt (red cotton),
got my other henna shirt (red plastic) to catch drips, and lay
down
for two hours. Then I got in the shower and rinsed it all off.
The next day my sideburns were bright red. I didn't like that, so I waited until the next day I had the time, thawed the leftover paste, and hennaed my beard again. It got darker, but still looks a bit odd. Maybe next time I'll go for the juglone (walnut) or add tamarind to the mix. To keep my hair in tip-top shape
between
hennaings, I fingercomb a mixture of jojoba oil, shea butter, and
essential oils through it every day, and rinse it every few days.
I don't need to shampoo it, because it doesn't get dirty. It
stays
soft, strong, and shiny, and I don't get the scalp itch that used
to
plague me. My beard is noticeably thicker, and though it hasn't been
long
enough to tell for sure, I can feel that it won't get new split ends
anymore.
