Leslie's Mixes

| I bought body art quality Henna
from Catherine and decided I
would do my hair as well as my mom's. My mom, Kim, has dark brown hair with grays around her temple and she has been dying her hair with dark burgundy color for a few years now which has resulted in it becoming dry and brittle. She last colored her hair one month ago. My hair is naturally dark blonde with red tones and I've been trying to grow the color out. I last colored my hair a reddish-brown in October and the difference between my roots and the faded color is very obvious. My hair has been bleached, stripped, colored, you name it so the ends were lighter than the roots. I mixed her 100g of henna with warm lemon juice as well as 2 tablespoons cloves and about 4 tablespoons paprika. I just mixed my 100g henna with straight lemon juice. I set both mixes on the warm stove and let if sit for a few hours. Once dye release was evident I put it in the fridge until the next morning. In the morning I added 10 drops lavender essential oil to my mom's mix and 15 drops to my own. I then added about 1/2 cup of warm berry zinger herbal tea to thin the henna mix. We left the henna on our hair for 5 hours wrapped in plastic wrap and a plastic bonnet I made from H-E-B bags. My mom's hair turned a very pretty coppery irish red. It actually looks lighter than her before pics. ![]() ![]() Mine, however, was VERY orange. The colored part of my hair hadn't taken as well as the uncolored part and I had dark red roots with orange streaks at the ends. But I had expected as much so I applied the henna I had left over to my hair for a 2nd application. I left this on for 2 hours. My resulting color is still very vibrant but it is a much richer red and the tone is much more even. My mom loves her hair color and I really like mine, although I'm looking forward to it oxidizing a little bit in the next few days. Leslie
