Henna for Hair

Larissa's Mix

Here is a picture of my baby-fine, shoulder-length hair!  I am 32, pregnant with #2, and was looking for a change a few months ago!  Having never chemically altered my hair ever, henna was my obvious answer for the safety of both myself, and baby on the way!  I had mousy blonde / light brown hair pre-henna… and now, I am Irish Setter red in the sunlight!!  I have comments all the time on my hair, and I will never stop with the henna!  Here is how I did it, because you can too!!

I mixed up about 75g of MDH “body art quality” henna with bottled lemon juice.  I mixed it to about toothpaste consistency, and left the paste on a hot water bottle overnight to wait for the dye to release.  Next morning, I put on my rubber gloves, and slapped the paste into my hair, working it through roots to tips.  Then, gathered my hair into a kind of “henna helmet” and wrapped in plastic cling film, followed by a nice warm towel.  Left paste on my hair for approximately an hour, and rinsed in the tub.  It is that simple!  For a few days after, my hair feels quite slippery, I think because the lemon juice strips off all the oils in my hair and I live in a very dry climate.  By day 3 though, my curl is back and my hair is feeling healthy, looking shiny, and has extra body (for fine hair, this is amazing!).

Good luck with your henna adventures – it is really simple and fun to take control of your own beauty in a natural way!
