Kristen's Mix

| I'm 23 and have never
colored or permed my dark brown/black
hair before. My hair is rather thick and I have these baby hairs that
stick up. I hoped henna would help weigh my hair down. I used approximately 125 grams of henna from Mehandi, mixed in a ceramic bowl with about 7 parts fresh squeezed lemon and grapefruit juice and 3 parts luke-warm filtered water. After beating the mix with a metal egg beater by hand til the henna was a smooth consistency, I added about 10 drops of tea tree oil. I then covered the bowl with clear wrap, then foil over the bowl and set it on top of my gas stove with the fire off. The warm environment helps the dye release. After 14 hours, I stirred the henna to mix in the dye release, and then had my sister slather on the henna with gloved hands and a dyer's brush. I placed a plastic cap and a towel over my head and left the henna on for about 4.5 hours. Right before rinsing, I took off the towel, and blow dried my hair with the cap still on for 5 minutes. I think this helps the dye release further. I then rinsed the henna out and shampooed and conditioned as usual. This picture was taken the next day. My roots seem darker probably because I added too much liquid and the henna had trouble clinging closer to my scalp. I am very satisfied with the results, my hair is now soft, hardly tangles, and the baby hairs on my head have been "weighed" down and tamed. In addition, my itchy scalp problem has completely gone away! Kristen |
