Kim's Mix
Kim A

Here is a pic of my hair.  The mix I used on this was about 50 g. henna and a small sample of beetroot powder (these were leftover from a previous hair dye, which I had frozen.  It was originally mixed with lemon juice to make a very think paste, left overnight until I saw dye release, and then thinned with grape juice.  I simply thawed it this time) - I added to them about 50 g. of indigo mixed with hot water, which I kept separate for 30 minutes until I saw the blue dye release from the indigo. I added in some peppermint, lemon, and lavender essential oils, for the fragrance. Then I mixed the indigo paste with the henna paste and applied it to my hair.  After wrapping in plastic wrap and then a towel, I left it on for 4.5 hours.

This is my 3rd dyeing experience. The first one – 100 g. henna and 2 oz. Black walnut, mixed with lemon juice and diluted with coffee, was too bright and copper for my coloring (although it was a beautiful color!).

My 2nd experience, with the henna, beetroot, and a small amount of indigo, with the grape juice, was a little deeper in tone, but still a little brassier than my coloring.

This 3rd attempt is just what I wanted, a cool brownish-red!

The mix I used for these was 50% henna and 50% indigo, the henna mixed the night before with lemon juice, indigo mixed with HOT water about 20 minutes before it was needed.  When both showed signs of good dye release I mixed them together and applied them to my hair, and left it on for 3 hours.

On the darker parts of my hair I got a dark auburn / dark ash brown depending on the lighting ... On the gray roots I have streaks of a light copper/brown color.
