hair before henna ........
I mixed 400 grams of Henna with juice from 2 lemons, and a whole bottle of bottled lemon juice (32 oz). Basically, I kept adding juice until it was stirrable, but still thick. I let it sit in my Tupperware "Big Bowl" (with the lid on) for nearly 24 hours to let the color release. That morning, I washed my hair with Neutrogena to remove any buildup and I didn't use conditioner. My friend glopped everything onto my head, using every last drop of the henna. (I have no idea of the technique she used to get it on there). We waited 4 hours, then I rinsed it all out in the shower. In the after photos, there's a duller picture... that happened when the sun went behind a cloud, so it gives you a good idea of what color it is when I'm inside. I've since re-henna'ed and I used almost the exact same procedure (I think I let it "steep" for only 12 hours) and got basically the same result. I'm looking for a slightly less vibrant red, more deep (I think) so I'm considering sleeping on the henna next time to get deeper color penetration through longer wearing. I LOVE the fact that my highlights still exist, and my grey is covered! I'm only 26, so the fact that I'm already 20% grey is frightful! I have found that it is easier to remove the henna by dunking my hair into a filled tub/sink first, letting my hair swirl for a bit gets the more tightly wedge globs out easier. Henna has been a godsend for me since I became allergic to the store bought dyes recently (well... 3 or so years ago). I get horrible gooseeggs at the base of my skull and my head feels like it is filled with hot gel for several days. Henna allows me to cover my pre-mature grey, get the color I want, and not suffer chemical reactions! YAY! And I actually like the hay-like scent that accompanies henna! Your website gave me the confidence and resources to try something that I wasn't 100% sure of, Thank you! Katie
