John's Mix

| I firstly mixed 80g of very fine
Indian henna with almost boiling water to a muesli consistancy, then
let it stand for about a half hour. Then I added the juice of one and a
half lemons (heated REALLY hot in the microwave) to make the mixture
much thinner-- about to the consistancy of thick pumpkin soup. Then
I got a friend to spoon the mixture on and smush as much through my
hair as possible. Then I wrapped my whole head in Glad-wrap and then on
with a shower cap for good measure. I walked around like this for 3-4
hours before rinsing it off in a hot shower.
Prior to my henna-ing my hair for the first time (yay!), I have dyed my hair black a few times, though not for at least 8 months, leaving plenty of re-growth to take the henna. The colour I ended up with started initially as an orangey one, which quickly darkened to the redish, chestnut colour in the picture. In the picture, however, remnants of the orange colour show through. Not only did this mix dye my hair, but it also made it INCREDIBLY thick... so much so that I had trouble running a brush through it. I would also suggest conditioning your hair BEFORE all the run-off from the henna has stopped, and avoid washing it for a few days, conditioning only. Good luck! John |
