Mix

| Hi everyone, Yes, I finally took the plunge! I was extra scared because I had been using chemical dies for so long, about 3 years. But after reviewing this site and reading all your helpful experiences and comments, I decided to go for it. Of course I had about 6 hairball test subjects sitting in a box for a few days, and put a test strand into the mix that I'm using today for my whole head, and they all turned out just fine. No green, nothing fried, and nothing scary! My last chemical dye job was a complete disaster as I tried a frosting kit at home (like that ever went well : )), and ended up having to dye my hair brown, to cover the mess. My husband is such a sweet heart, and went out to buy the haircolor for me to cover it all up, at 10 pm on a saturday. That was about 3 1/2 months ago. Recently we found out about the problem with PPD, and both were shocked...I had no idea! We quickly decided that Henna would be the way to go for me, because it is so safe, so beautiful, and as my husband says "Do you trust something that makes people sick, or something that has been around for thousands of years?"...The answer is clear! My hair is naturaly light (very ash) Brown, but has some reddish brown permanent color growing out, it is to my bellybutton, and pretty fine. I haven't cut it in over 1 1/2 years, and don't really have any problems with split ends, oddly. But now to the fun part! I mixed 100g of Henna from Catherine with seven lemons worth of lemon juice ( I know that because I went the easy way, with already squeezed stuff, no additives though) and mixed it in a little guacamole bowl. It was a little too thick, and I ran out of Lemon juice, so I decided to throw in some Cherry limeade, which had lime juice from concentrate, cherry juice, corn syrup, citric acid, grape juice and water in it, put a loose piece of cling wrap on that and put it on the warm area on the fridge. I let it sit for about 8 1/2 hours and then put it on a 450 degree preheated oven door (not touching the door itself so it doesn't get too hot), for the hot breeze, for about 30 minutes. Then I put it in a bigger bowl, always plastic, and added a little bit of honey, and a whole lot of cinnamon and mixed that in nicely. I quickly washed my hair with some cheap Jojoba shampoo, and rinsed it very well. My hair was so tangeled from not using conditioner that it was a nightmare trying to comb it through, but I did it, to allow for the henna to be applied more easily. I then put on some rubber gloves, (and I'm so glad I did :)), and started smearing the henna all over my hair, by the hands full. I made sure I got every strand by squishing around my hair, and pulling the henna through it. After I realized I forgot to put conditioner around my hairline, my husband helped me fix that problem and cleaned my ears off, and after I was done my neck too. I covered my muddy hair in cling wrap and wiped any stains off my face. I then proceeded to clean the bathroom, which I must say was suprisingly easy for how messy it was. I let that stay on my hair for 3 hours and then washed it out with a LOT of conditioner and then washed and conditioned well again. The water ran orange-brown and I rinsed my hair until it ran pretty clear. Amazingly I was able to comb through my wet hair without problems! My hair was pretty red when it dried...bright auburn I'd say, but the color will definetely change in the next few days, so I'll wait to judge the color until then. My hair initially was a bright auburn, but has toned down to a nice I would say Coppery Red! My hair is now shiny and so much healthier and so easy to manage! My husband loves it, I love it, it's great! |
