Esther's Mix

| I’ve only used henna twice but
I’m planning on being a lifetime user. I tried it a long while back but
it didn’t “take” and now I know why: I have very dark hair and before,
I was applying henna like a home chemical colouring set, mix it up,
apply immediately and keep it on only for half an hour. Well here’s my mix: I buy this wonderful brand of henna from my local health food store here in Spain, its name is Radhe Shyam and it’s absolutely great all natural pure powdered henna leaves with no chaff or twigs or any of that junk. I mix it with the juice of about 7 lemons, some red wine (from a bottle NOT table wine), and a strong, hot infusion of rosemary and sage, because supposedly it darkens the colour, I don’t know if it’s true but I get a most wonderful perfect burgundy-wine shade which I just love! Add a few drops of lavender EO and let it sit at least one day. It’s hot here so I don’t need to put it anyplace special just leave it on the kitchen counter. I glob on the henna in the shower so it’s real easy to clean up afterwards, in my case it’s quite tricky because I’ve got a small baby and a toddler and I have to cajole hubby to stay with them while I’m hennaing, it all depends on hubby’s mood! In fact I started hennaing in the first place because of all that drag with the “postpartum hair loss” business, seems to be working all that hair IS slowly but surely growing back, lots of baby hairs up there now! I wrap in tons of saran wrap and a towel and leave it on for at least four hours, deeply envying all those lucky free spirits who can leisurely while away the waiting time watching movies, reading books or lounging away in the sun. I would never ever trade my children for anything in the world but I do wish I had someone to look after them for me while I’m hennaing! Instead as I’m waiting for the henna to “take” I must cook supper feed the children bathe them and coax the nervous restless baby to sleep. Only when they are both finally in bed can I get into the shower and rinse the henna off. It’s not very hard to do since it’s such a great brand, just some conditioner shampoo and conditioner again. And then I step out with luxurious gorgeous hair. I certainly don’t look like a mom who recently suffered from “postpartum hair loss” anymore! Esther
