Dionne's Mix

| Ok.. here's what I did.. Before I hennaed, I had chemically coloured, faded red/auburn hair, which had previously been every colour under the sun! My natural colour is medium/dark blonde, but have to say, my hair hasn't been it's natural colour for quite some time. My final mix ended up consisting of 300g body art quality henna powder (I actually mixed up 400g, just to be on the safe side, but had some left over, which I've frozen).. about equal parts lemon juice & red wine.. with about half a cup of tea thrown in, for good measure. I couldn't decide which EO to use as a terp, so I used about 10 drops each, of three different ones (Tea Tree, Marjoram & Lavender).. et voila! It looked & smelled foul (I think it was the wine that made it smell a bit dodgy, to be honest)! I left it over-night, to allow for dye release.. I slathered it all on.. it was all over the bath.. all over the sink.. up the walls & all over me (even on the underneath of my feet!).. thank goodness I covered the bathroom carpet with a plastic sheet! My head was wrapped in cling film, a plastic shower cap & a towel. I left it on for 6 hours (I was determined it was going to work!), while I lazed around outside, in the sun.. I absolutely loved it! Before I did my henna, I did quite a few strand tests (after the initial harvest test), as I'd had blonde highlights in the top & I wanted to see what colour they'd come out. It's very bright ginger, where my blonde bits once were, but I like bright! Bright is good! I'll probably be quite sad when it tones down in a few days. Since then, I've done a second henna. (no photo of that, I'm afraid) My second mix consisted of 300g body art quality henna, 50/50 lemon juice & grape juice, a splash of rosemary tea & a few drops each, of Tea Tree & Lavender EOs. This mix smelled much nicer than the first mix (possibly because I used grape juice, instead of red wine). Left it over night for dye release.. slopped it on & left it on my head for 7 hours. The colour after my second henna is even more beautiful than my first henna. It's a deep cherry-ish red/auburn colour. My hair's soft, shiny & stronger than it was. I haven't had it trimmed for about 3 months (I had to have it trimmed every 8 weeks, before I hennaed, or it would look unhealthy) & I don't seem to have any split ends. I've never had so many compliments on my hair!
