You'll need to check with your State cosmetology board to see if you
need to be licensed, since it does involve sanitary/hygiene issues.
Some states don't require licensing to henna hair, and some require
that even hairbraiders be licensed.

The upside, though, of needing to licensed is they may have you take
some basic trichology-related classes. Trichology is about stuff
relating to hair & scalp diseases, what can be done to treat, and
how to prevent the spread of said diseases, like dandruff, mildewed
hair (yes, it happens), and other common stuff.

In the end, it's your state cosmetology board that's the final say.
