Ginny,

I used Catherine's henna and it is as you know very good quality. I
just don't like the darkness. I will try the permanent box dye in a
couple of weeks. Trying to lossen the henna with coconut oil and
strippin shampoos. Going to try herbavita - a gentler hair dye.
Thanks again.

: I have had no trouble at all getting henna to cover my gray, and my
: hair is SUPER resistant to everything, and in fact, the henna did a
: better job than the commercial dye's I've used over the past 25
years.
: I would have to wonder if the henna you used was either old or not
: pure henna, or you didn't let the dye release long enough. One
thing
: I've learned reading the articles and posts on this site, and I can
: attest personally, having used poor quality henna years ago, the
: quality DOES make a HUGE difference in the coverage, as does the
: length of time you leave it on, AND the time you allow for the dye
: release. And you can alter the brightness of the red, I added
: allspice to my mix since my hair had been bleached/dyed a medium
: blond, and I got a gorgeous deep copper/auburn color, and there are
: lots of mixes that tell you things to add to brighten it as well,
like
: paprika to make it redder, or chamomile or lemon juice to help
lighten
: it or keep it from getting too dark. Also, if you used a "boxed"
: henna, it may have had indigo or another substance added to it to
make
: it darker, and often those mixes do not tell you what's in there.
And
: as far as dying over it, I did years ago, the only problem would
be IF
: you used a brand that was NOT pure henna, the things they add to
those
: "mixes" are sometimes really bad, but pure body quality henna has
no
: reaction to the commercial dyes.
:
: Sorry it didn't work for you. I personally will NEVER go back to
the
: commercial dyes and poisons. I've not had any obvious allergy
: reactions, but I've had over 15 years of unexplained health
problems,
: and I can't help but wonder if putting all those toxins on my
: hair/scalp for all these years haven't contributed greatly to my
: declining health. Regardless, for me, I will never expose myself
to
: those things again, even if I had to go red and gray, henna is all
: I'll use from now on. Best of luck to you.
:
: Peace,
: Ginny
:
: : Hi Everyone,
: :
: : First of all I must say that I love how henna conditions my hair
but
: : unfortunately I will have to have it bleached out. I don't know
if
: : any of you know that once you henna you are stuck with it. You
: : cannot color over it and for it be removed you have to let it
grow
: : out or bleach it out. I have always used a light brown box
color. I
: : thought I would switch to a healthier color (henna) but I have a
: : problem. My roots do not take any color (dark brown) and the
rest of
: : it is now (brownish/reddish). My hair color is too dark and I
: : absolutely hate it. I cannot get any color on my roots so I am
either
: : stuck with living with a 2-tone head until it all grows out or
: : bleaching it out and recoloring using a regular dye.
: :
: : Well that is what I am going to do and I might add it is going
to
: : cost me about $200.00 to do this whole thing at an AVEDA Hair
Salon
: : in New York. I tell you the thought of bleaching my hair makes
me
: : feel like crying but I have no choice. If I had known this I
would
: : NEVER EVER have used henna. Good luck to you all and I hope you
know
: : what you are getting into.
