Hi Yelsel,

Yep, you got some good henna, so it shouldn't have been that, but if
you've read other posts on here, lots of folks seem to have drying or
irritation with lemon juice. NOTHING seems to bother my scalp, even
that nasty, harsh chemical stuff rarely ever affected my scalp, and my
hair is very course and thick, and VERY resistant to just about
everything, but it took the henna really, really well. AND I'm happy
to report this morning, after using a cheapy Suave Honey and Milk
shampoo (which smells WONDERFUL!) my hair is NOT oily this morning, I
may even be able to skip a day without looking like a total
greaseball!! LOL!! The other shampoo I had been using had panthenol
in it, so I'm wondering if that was the problem? Anyway, sounds like
we both have our problems solved, hopefully!! :)

And I'm with you, after 25 years of chemically treating my hair, and
the last 15 years of my life riddled with health problems, that NO ONE
could figure out the cause to, I'm DONE with chemicals..... I love
the henna, and it covered my gray great, so I'm sold, again!! I just
hope Catherine is around to sell it to me for a long, long time!! ;)

Peace,
Ginny

: hi ginny!
: you asked where i purchased my henna. i got it from a local
(reputable) body art
: henna artist. the brand is "Jamila" and it is supposed to be
excellent. it does seem to
: have strong staining power.
: i only mixed lemon juice with the henna, but from reading the
replies my post has
: gotten, i think i'll try something less acidic next time. my hair
wasn't particularly dry
: or oily to begin with -- just normal. i think the fact that it's
very fine may have
: something to do with the dryness. incidentally, today i applied some
mayonnaise
: before washing, and at the moment it looks swell, so i am very
encouraged. i am very
: committed to the idea of using henna, especially since i too used to
chemically treat
: my hair (although i stopped about a year ago) -- and now i am 42 and
i see women
: my age who chemically treat their hair and it looks like straw! so,
no thanks -- from
: now on, it's going to be henna, or gray!
: thanks for your comments.

: I had exactly the opposite, my hair is extra oily! I used to use
: : conditioner EVERYDAY, or my hair looked awful, and could go every
: : other day washing my hair without any problems. Now, since I've
: : hennaed (I used henna I purchased from Catherine, EXCELLENT product!),
: : my hair has to be washed everyday, and I've not used any conditioner
: : since I hennaed my hair a week ago. I can't even imagine using
: : conditioner, and what kind of mess it would be if I did! And even
: : washing everyday hasn't affected my color, it's darkened a bit since
: : the first day, but it's rich and a lovely medium red color. And my
: : hair WAS chemically processed, VERY processed! I've been using
: : commercial dyes for over 25 years, so this is a very pleasant change,
: : though will take some getting used to!! I'm used to my oily hair
: : being less oily from processing, and now it's back to the way it was
: : when I was a teenager! Amazing!!
: :
: : Not to be nosey, but where did you purchase your henna? I know from
: : reading posts on this site, THAT makes a HUGE difference. And did you
: : mix anything with it besides the lemon juice? Or maybe the lemon
: : juice was too strong for your hair? Was your hair more dry to begin
: : with, or more on the oily side? Just curious......
: :
: : Peace,
: : Ginny

: :
: : : Has anyone found that henna dried out their hair?
: : : I used good body art quality henna, soaked it overnight in lemon
: : juice and left it on
: : : for 3 hours. The first day, my hair (which has not been chemically
: : treated) looked
: : : great, but since then, it's definitely gone dull and flyaway.
: : : I tried washing it and conditioning it, but still no change. I'm
: : about to try mayonnaise
: : : (heard it's great for hair), but I've also heard that henna "coats"
: : the hair and doesn't
: : : "let" any conditioner through. However, there are so many positive
: : reports on this site
: : : and elsewhere about how great henna is for hair that I can't quite
: : believe the negative
: : : reports. So any feedback / tips / links on this matter would be much
: : appreciated.
: : : thanks!
