There's always the option of changing the ammount of henna you put on
them. Maybe for the light brown hair, use very little acid (if any)
in the henna. We know that acids are what break up the molecules and
release the dye, so that makes sense. Mix it with something that
yields brown/golden tones? Worth looking at.
