I don't know what I am going to end up with yet---still got 2 hours
to go. But I started out with dyed black hair and natural mousy
brown/50% gray roots about 6 inches. I did a medium ash brown with
henna/indigo and oils about 6 weeks ago. I have about 2 more inches
virgin regrowth.

I have hennaed for years. I am trying for a nice burgundy--
black/cherry to blend in the dyed black and lighten up my face/cover
gray.

I get black when I use indigo after henna, but usually when I mix
indigo in the henna and do it one step I get a very dark brown or
mahogany. This was great for many years, then I started getting so
much gray I took the easy way out and used chemical dyes. But when my
hair was still dark on its own I got a mahogany/black with garnet
highlights in the sunshine. I am trying this to even up the different
shades now and cover the gray. The allspice has given some others
here a burgundy-ish tone and that is what I am hoping for.

when I use oils in the henna mix, eg. coconut or almond I get an ashy
medium brown which is what I started with on the gray and then went
to the two-step henna/indigo process for black. I cannot get black to
take on my gray right off, so I try to set a base first and then the
second or third time it will be dark enough.

my ultimate goal is to condense the steps into something I can live
with and I decided a burgundy would blend well enough with what I
have now and my skin tone. so I have been experimenting the last 4
months or so.

I will let you all know what I get ASAP! I can't wait!
