but it could be with fermentation, mordants, iron .... other such.

To get a dark brown walnut dye for cloth, you rot the husks, boil them
down with iron and boil mordanted yarn in the dyebath. None of that
stuff is of any use for hair. Boiling one's head is just not an option.

For the moment, I think Amla's potential would be to work with indigo
to get better conditioning, and no red .... or as a pack over henna to
cool off the color. I just got in a new shipment so now I have enough
extra to fiddle around with.
