You might want to try a gentle, natural build up remover. I wash mine at the scalp
every week or two with a baking soda and honey paste, and then rinse out with water
... and then rinse the whole length with diluted lemon juice (a lot of people use Apple
Cider Vinegar (ACV) instead of lemon) ...

This helps my curls when they've gotten a little weighed down with products,
especially things with silicone derivitives (things with 'cone at the end) tend to build
up over time ... my hair is very very soft and light after the bs/honey wash and lemon
rinse
