: Greetings,
:
: I had excellent results with henna/lemon juice/essential oil and
: then about 1/3 indigo (with essential oil added). Used tea tree and
: lavendar essential oils. Formula was perfect and I thank the others
: on this site for their formulas that helped me!
:
: Now my grey roots are showing again. :-( With normal hair dyes and a
: dark brunette hair you have to be careful because if you continually
: re-dye the entire hairshaft, the bottom part gets darker and darker
: until it's almost black. Then you have a reddish upper 1/3 and
: almost black on the rest. Obviously I don't want that. I'm probably
: 1/8th grey, so I have to do something...
:
: SO my question is: what about henna? Can I re-dye the entire head of
: hair, or should I somehow try to only dye the roots? What happens
: the second and/or third time around with body art quality henna on
: the hair.
:
: OR, should I leave out the indigo the second time -- maybe it would
: be a source of hair turning blacker on the ends?
:
: I guess I just hope that I can get the hair color to be identical to
: what it is now -- on the whole hair shaft...
:
: AND, third question. Another woman told me she doesn't do henna
: because each batch of henna (even if high quality) comes out a
: different color? If I order my henna from catherine each time, is
: this likely?
:
: Thanks for any feedback,
: Cynthia

Dear Cynthia,

Probably with about up to 3 applications of henna alone the red color
would get richer, just as leaving it on longer deepens the color. With
dark brown hair it would be fairly subtle. I'd worry more about the
indigo than the henna build-up.

I think doing just the roots would be difficult and not really
necessary. Plus you would lose the fabulous conditioning of henna and
it blends so well since it is transparent/translucent.

I would suggest cutting back on the indigo on the next batch and keep
adjusting accordingly. Maybe even try a strand test.

I too have slightly greying dark brown hair and started with a 50/50
henna indigo mix to get a color I liked and have been using less
indigo each time because I was worried about the indigo build-up on my
hair after my second application. Seems the indigo does wash out a
bit over 4 weeks but I think how much depends on your hair. My last
batch was 90/10 henna indigo and my hair is basically the same color.
I haven't done 100% henna since the first time, because I like the
cooler tone of the red the indigo gives.

My order of walnut powder just arrived, so next week I will try a
henna/walnut or a henna/walnut with a dash of indigo mix. Less red and
more brown would be closer to my natural color.

Catherine's henna seems to always give me the same color. I have had
two batches of henna so far in different packaging and they seem to
work the same.
