My hair started out light brown/dark blonde (dirty dish water blonde
my mother always called it). I had then been dying it "copper penny
red" with L'Oreal Excellance Cream. That turned it more reddish
strawberry blonde but not anything like a copper penny which I really
interpreted to mean a darkish auburn-which is EXACTLY what I was
looking for and have absolutely found with henna!

In doing my strand tests, I found that henna/lemon juice/cloves made
it a slightly darker red/orange than the much more orange/red of just
henna/lemon juice. So I use henna:cloves 4:1 mixed with lemon juice
and water about 50:50. (I also adore the smell so I keep the cloves
even though I don't think they are doing anything for the color
anymore.) My hair darkened from the red/orange area to copper penny
auburn quite nicely by the 2nd henna. I've done it 4 times now and I
don't notice any further darkening of my hair color, which is
perfectly fine with me! If the commercial dye had given the color on
the box, I might never have found henna. I wanted red! Not red for
2-4 days and then fade to strawberry blond. People kept asking me if
I was going blond and I kept saying NOOOOO! I'm a red head! Now, I'm
a RED head and I've even had people argue with me that this is my
natural color and why was I dying it boring brown/blonde before!!! lololol

And I agree about Moulin Rouge...not a big fan of Nicole Kidman in
general or that musical. I like old musicals back when they were GOOD
haha...7 brides for 7 brothers, fred astaire, gene kelly, oklahoma,
etc. Those were musicals I could watch everyday.
