There are new beet breeds that are bred for dye .... for foods,
because the synthetic dye makes children go apeshit.

I don't know if they have the same demise problems as other beet
dyes.........
As I recall, they don't penetrate and bind with keratin well. But
they're great for pumping up the color in food.
