Hallo, Marlene - You sound the way I did a few months ago, when I
resumed henna use after a hiatus of some years. I'd bin the stuff;
yes, I tried to use mine up and it was a waste of time. What most of
us who post here do is to obtain the freshest possible body-art
quality henna (reputable suppliers are listed elsewhere on the site),
and use that. It produces a much deeper and longer-lasting stain.
In order to obtain your red results, bear in mind that, while henna
(lawsonia inermis)produces a red dye molecule, which bonds with the
keratin of your own hair, the precise shade you get will be
determined by the starting shade of your own hair. In the Mixes
section, you will see lots of real people, including 'before'
and 'after' pictures. In my own case, I had a bit of a shock -
pleasant, mind you - when I used the henna over my dyed copper hair,
and ended up with a much darker auburn than I had expected! It worked
well, because it blended perfectly with my natural chestnut + ageing-
mouse-grey. Others, with lighter hair, report a brighter result.
All the best, and please let us know how it turns out for you!
