I used to use clips (my hair is slightly shorter than yours, but
it's very thick), but then realized that I didn't really need them--
If you use enough henna/indigo, you can actually create a behive-
like cone on your head just using the mixture. That's what I do,
followed by covering it with a shower cap and then covering that
with a terrycloth cap. I also lay a black towel over my pillow in
case of leaks.

Good luck with the French. I've lived there twice--a year in the
south and 1/2 year on the west coast. The French are OK, and
they'll probably be nice, especially if you're trying to use their
language!
