: I'm looking for a lighter reddy color.

If I'm rightly understanding you, then I had to do somethng similar.
I, too, had dyed black for some years. In my case, I began with a
product called 'Sun-In' which contains nothing metallic and is mainly
peroxyde. It wasn't quite enough, so I then switched to a stripper -
of the L'Oreal or Clairol ones will do, although FYI the former
*claim* to do no animal testing.I henna with no problems, BUT always
harvest hair from your hairbrush and test first, in ordfer to make
sure that the henna is compatible with whatever chemical soup is
residually in your hair.
If I had it to do over again, I'd opt for the stripper in one fell
swoop, stop it at approximately the desired color, and go from there.
I wouldn;t bother with the piecemeal approach of cautious lightening,
because it did damage the hair, which then had to be cut. Best to
have it on and over with at once. Good luck, and remember to TEST on
those harvested hairballs!
