: Why is everyone so keen on converting people to henna? :

Because it works so well and consistently. We BELIEVE in Henna. We
want to spread the WORD. The henna mottos, "There is not one true
way (to henna) but they ALL work" and "Spread a little love (henna)
around" are principles to live by!

:Isn't it better keeping it a secret for the informed.:

Not really. If less people know, less people ask for it. Demand goes
down, producers move onto other things. Availability decreases.
Prices go up. Less people buy. Demand goes down. See a trend? It
isn't financially sound to keep keep such a good item a secret now,
is it?

:I'd prefer not seeing a trend of shiney, healthy henna red heads
everywhere I go.:

I would. I don't mind the healthy hair or seeing a lot of Pippy
Longstocking types. People with healthy red hair are usually so
cheerful!

: I doubt there is much money to be made commercially, since pureness
: and freshness are what makes it work so well. As soon as it hits
the warm store shelf it will go stale.:

Not if they disappear off the shelf as soon as they appear!

: Simple mixes, etc? Seems the time involved of planning ahead and
hours on your hair are the biggest problems- mixing is a breeze. If
most people picked up a box of hair dye and it said to mix 12-24
hours before applying and leave on for 2-8 hours, they'd put it down
fast.:

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing well. If it requires lots of
planning, then if you think it's worth it you'll find the time. A
lot of people on this site thinks it's worth it. It's also a good
excuse to get rid of the extra egg, lemon juice, yogurt, etc that's
been haunting your kitchen like uninvited guests that have overstayed
their welcome. (I personally am waiting for a mix that includes
stale bread or overripe bananas...)

They say beauty is pain, so the more unpleasant the process the
better the results.

IOW, we may just be a bunch of masochists.

: Henna is special for those of us that care to do the very best for
our hair:

Yep!

:and don't mind the red.:

Well, I mind the red, I prefer being in the black, but there are ways
around red.

Firmly TIC

Christine
