The oven idea sounds great, only I live in a shared house with 4 other
people, (oh dear, i am beginning to sound like an awkward customer!)
so there would be no guarantee that one of them might not come back
and wonder why there is a strange muddy-substance in the oven! they
sometimes all go away at the weekend though, so maybe i can try it out
then, although even after the 3rd or 4th time i am beginning to
realise that when i want to henna, i just can't wait!

i have a sink in my room which is useful as i can rinse the henna out
in that without having to run around the house to the bathroom with a
plasic bag on my head, although my housemates are beginning to get
used to that anyway, i have even nearly converted one! i do like my
autonomy though and to know my henna is somewhere safe, so i am
beginning to think a heatmat might be the right idea, if they are not
too expensive?

considering the amount of money i am saving using henna rather than
expensive chemichal dyes and hairdressers, maybe the expense of a
heatmat would be bearable, although i have no idea where i would get
one from and whether they would be appropriate for henna?

: Redrhi,
: I find that if I add 15 drops each of lavender, tea tree, and cajeput
: essential oils and keep the henna in my oven I see dye release stain
: on the paper towel in about 3 hours...which is nice for the
: patience-challenged individual like myself! I can turn my oven to be
: on very low...like 125 degrees F but if you can't, just leave the oven
: off. The inside of your oven is usually warmer than your kitchen, if
: you have a gas oven as the pilot light throws off a little heat. The
: inside of my unlit oven is about 80 degrees almost all the time
: because of the pilot light. If your oven is electric, I bet initially
: heating it (empty) to the lowest setting you can get for about 30
: minutes, turning off and opening door for about 10-15 minutes or so
: and then using the hot water bottle would work. I'm thinking a
: slightly higher ambient temperature in the oven might keep the water
: in the bottle warmer for a little while. But DEFINITELY do not put
: your mix in a HOT oven. Burning or cooking your henna will NOT help
: and will ruin it.
:
: I also find that a 3part henna to 1 part cloves mix does mellow out
: the orange...but I've heard from here than cloves can be irritating to
: some scalps and that this is a high ratio so Be Careful! The clove
: smell, which I adore, stays for about 1.5 weeks on dry hair and about
: 3 weeks when wet.
:
: Good luck on your perfect color!
