: But could your idea about that much orange already in the hair, + a

Without knowing what colors were left in your "dye fried hair" plus
the color deposited by henna, it's impossible to know. Look at the
list of indgredients in commercial dyes - there are an incredible
number of chemicals involved, in various balances, to get the whole
range of colors they make. You have some of your natural melanins not
fried by the chemicals, some chemical pigments from the dye, and some
lawsone. Since henna makes a translucent coating on the hair,
whatever is underneath will always show through to some degree.

: <btw> I thought your posting was very interesting - thanks, Katherine

Thanks for the kind words. Color, pigment, and how the eye sees them
is an interesting study. For myself, I'm struggling with my moustache
- which is very resistant to color. It's now almost all white - pure
white - under the henna. So far I've only been able to go from
"marigold yellow" to "popsicle orange" with several coats of henna.
Last session, after a new coat of "popsicle", I followed with a coat
of indigo and now sport a rather nice, but not natural looking, amber
color. None of this matters much, since I dress it every day with
moustache wax (in a mix of black and brown) to keep it from dipping
into my martini. Just want some color other than white when I go
swimming or get caught in the rain.

I keep thinking it would be amusing to get to the "Irish Setter" level.
