I've tried the gel mix a couple of times with pectin as well, but it
never seemed to work right. I'm not sure if it's something *in* the
pectin that keeps the dye from fully releasing or if I just "cooked"
my henna by mixing it with the lemon juice/pectin solution when it
was too hot....I never got much color out of it.

Either way, I gave up on the gel and used straight henna + lemon
juice + lavender EO instead. It did the dye release overnight and I
got SO MUCH MORE color out of it. If you can, try henna'ing without
the pectin and see what happens. HTH a little...
