I hennaed someone and it didn't show at all on her very dark hair,
so she was impatient to dye over it to cover the greys coming in at
her scalp. After explaining to her what might happen I threw up my
hands in defeat and told her to ask the cosmetician at the pharmacy
(she was calling from the hair dye aisle). She dyed her hair within
a week of hennaing and had no ill effects, with a semi-permanent
dye. It was a L'Oreal Casting/Color Spa semi-permanent in a dark
brown-red shade. If you're going to try this, PLEASE test a strand
of hair first.
Also, I might add, I know a few people who find that semi-permanent
dyes do not cover their grey as well as permanent dyes do. So test
your hair first, preferably a sample with greys in it, so you can
see what will happen.
Hopefully, you'll only have to do this for 3-4 months before
switching to henna. Again, I can't stress this enough, do a strand
test before going to henna, as well! Good luck!

: So....I currently use a permanent dye which I know I won't be able
: to just go henna right away. Does semi-permanent dye have the same
: reaction with henna?
:
: Because I'm thinking about switching to semi-permanent for awhile
: until I'm ready for the transition. I'm going gray and have been
: dyeing my hair for awhile and don't want people to see me with a
: head of gray that I've been hiding forever!!! Does anyone have
: experience with semi-permanent to henna??
:
: Thanks.
