I think that I've read that the acidity of henna paste can react
badly with certain metals. I always use plastic and wood, just to
be safe, and it's cheaper to replace if it gets too stained.
Essential oils containing terpines (terps) can help make more dye
available. Many people here feel that terping your henna is great
for skin art, but doesn't make a difference on hair. I add oils
more for their scent, like clove bud or neroli, and for their
beneficial properties, like rosemary for sleekness or tea tree to
make your scalp feel tingly. Have no idea why your henna would be
clumpy, I always use lemon juice because vinegar smell makes me
ill. And I have no idea what "smarmy" might mean, the british are a
mystery to me. Ever since I learned what a scotch egg was I've been
a little scared of them. And I still don't know what bubbles and
squeak is.
