: Hi Valerie
:
: Nell was highlighting her hair, but I wasn't--I dyed my hair with
: commercial chemical dyes.
: (I know it's hard to notice but if you read my past entry, you'll
: see it says I dyed my hair with chemical colors...)
:
: Sorry if you didn't catch that, but I think just maybe it could
: still be helpful to know what happened to my hair--I used Senna
: (cassia) over my dry, commercial-colored hair(one of them was
Feria,
: which had a NASTY, nasty smell that made me queasy and naseous)
:
: The result: after using senna on my hair, it stopped being dry and
: it reflected more light. Since senna (cassia) has no dye, it didn't
: unleash any chemical reaction.
: One thing in common though--the commercial hair dyes I used on my
: hair DID make my hair more lank and oily (personally I think it's
: the scalp's way of "fighting back", since so many bleaches, dyes
and
: highlighters overdry the hair and scalp.)
:
: If you want more info on henna over bleaches, the best thing to do
: would be to post a message for Catherine Cartwright-Jones: she is
: working towards her Ph.D in henna and has been hennaing her hair
for
: years.
:
: I may also add that it's really exciting to use real herbs or herb
: mixes on the hair: you can create beautiful colors and natural
: highlights--you can go to Fia's mixes in the mixes page if you want
: to know more.
:
: Thanks for your concern, Valerie.

:
: : Hi I just posted a question asking if you could henna over
: : highlighted hair. This is what you are doing, and would you
: recommend
: : it? Im just curious how your hair turned out? My hair is
: med/darkish
: : brown (used to be blonde) hardly any grey yet just a tad at the
: : temples. I havnt bleached in about 3 months and just used regular
: : hair bleach as a highlighter but dont want to go down that
: thinning
: : road that it seems to leave, and I dont know about you but do you
: : notice your hair seems lank and oily after bleaching?
: : Thanks, Valerie.

Hi Jade thank you for the response. I used feria once too it did seem
mighty chemical at that I remember that smell almost a sickly sweet
chemical after odor am I right? I think you hit the nail on the head
about your hair fighting back after all those chemicals and becoming
lank and oily. yuk, I do want to wean away from the bleach now, but
my hair is so dark I dont think the herbs would budge it. I thought
of tapering to darker and fewer highlights until it eventually blends
in then just stick with the henna. Also I think I will start ordering
from this website. I would feel 100 percent secure using these
products from what I have been reading. Yes I will ask Catherine
about the highlighting. I did recieve a response from another viewer
and she highlights with all sorts of methods and her hair looks very
healthy! Its good to know. This website is great everyone has been so
helpful. :)thanx
Valerie
