I used to have greasy hair until I started hennaing. Now it's sleek and
feels just right. I think what happens is that my cuticle was crinkly,
making more area for oil to stick to and bacteria to grow. Henna and
lemon make the cuticle tight and shiny, and cloves keep the germs from
growing. Ammonia and peroxide lift the cuticle, and there's a lot more
room for oil and bacteria (peroxide kills bacteria, but it doesn't stay in
the hair nearly as long as clove). The only time my hair doesn't feel
smooth is a few days after I henna it, when it's still coated in henna
dust. That I get out with shea, jojoba, and lots of combing.
