Hi, my hair was/is medium brown with gold and reddish highlights.
origianally, my hair is meduim ash brown, but I have died my hair,
bleached my hair and most recently henna'ed my hair over the last 10
years. henna by far is the best feeling and best color, but I find I
do not really like all red. so now, I mix henna and indigo to get
dark reddish brown. however, I did try the coffe mixture prior to
beginning the henna routine again, so it was applied to medium golden
brown hair with about 5% maybe less, grey roots. I found the coffee
did not really seem to darken my hair (I brewed regual cheap coffee
but very very dark brew) and poured it over my hair into the sink,
with the sink stopped for it to pool. I then just used a cup to
continue pouring it through my hair.

I did this for about 15 times, and then let it sit in my hair for
about a half hour before rinsing in the shower, I did not use
shampoo. I did notice that it turned my grey hairs a light golden
brown, like highlights.

I wash my hair about 3 times a week, and it lasted about two weeks or
so, before the grey started showing again.

I would guess that you could also use decaf coffee if you are worried
about a caffeine buzz, also I would hazard to guess that black tea
would work as well - just make it as strong as you can. perhaps if
you did a cocunut oil scalp massage every few days, that would lessen
the irritation that I got? my scalp is very sensitive though.

does this help? let me know how it works if you decide to try.

: Hi Jill! What colour was your hair to start with and how much
: darker did the coffee make it? And how dark was the coffee
: itself? How quickly does it fade and how often do you need to
: re-do it? Umm lots of questions here, but finally how many
: times did you wash your hair in a week (minus the coffee
: rinses)? That way we can figure out how many washes it would
: last etc.
:
: Jill, could you try adding some kind of scent to your rinse to take
: away some of the coffee smell?
