: They should give us a break, and give us a bit of credit we're not
: that stupid are we? The best answer is the proof of your beautiful
: hennaed hair.

The proof must be in the pudding...people who have had beautiful hair
from years of using it (and not getting irritated scalp or other nasty
side effects). And since nobody has come forward and said "yeah henna
definitely wrecked my hair, and it was not some other cause," I will
believe in it. I like the color more and more every day, despite it
being on top of the faded dyed stuff.

I totally agree with your comments about the cosmetic industry. I've
become even more suspicious since my sister finished her cosmetology
degree, with the stuff she spouts. I think cosmetology schools are
set up to support an industry of beauty products.

It was fun to make the henna goo. I used part Celestial Seasonings
Red Zinger tea (strong!), a few tablespoons of lemon, and some
cranberry juice. Next time, I think I will stay away from the lemon
juice and just try cranberry juice and maybe some apple cider vinegar.
I'm curious to see if the cranberry juice does anything different,
and the lemon juice may have been responsible for some of the
yellowness tinge at first. Or maybe that's just my hair, or the way
it would look anyway before the color settled down.

My bathroom actually didn't get too messy. I left my hair dry, and
boy did it just soak up the sludgey mud I had made of the henna. I
had enough to cover my hair, but I felt compelled to mist it with
distilled water after I was done rubbing it in - it had started to dry
out a bit.

It' such a fun (soon to be) ritual...so much better than feeling your
scalp burn, smelling noxious fumes...and you don't have to worry about
it messing up your hair if you don't work fast enough to get it
distributed throughout. I loved having the "play time" to work it
through my hair and get thorough coverage. It was much easier to get
it off my skin afterwards than commercial hair dye.

I'm rambling on about this in the hopes that it will help convince
others to try this if they want red hair...
