Depends on the brand, and what part of the indigo process you mean.

1) indigo is a plant
2) indigo is partially fermented to release dye. This may be called
indigo (I do) or vashma (I don't use that word because many people are
unfamiliar witht it, and its still indigo). Partially fermeted indigo
is also called "black henna" (its not black and its not henna) and
Bashma (same stuff different pronunciation)
3) When indigo is completely fermeted and reduced to pure dye, it is
called indigo. That's dark blue, and it dyes your jeans.
