henna on white hair corlored with synthetic dye?

Hi!
My mother dyes her completely white hair brown with synthetic dye
and has been for years. She would love to switch to henna but the
color she got on a strand test (with good quality henna)on her roots
was way too orange, of course. (She has not dyed her hair with
synthetic dye for about a month and it didn't seem to affect the
texture of the hair negatively)

Is there anything she can do, maybe with a combination of indigo and
henna or something else that will give her a darker color, maybe
auburn?
