The time you let it sit in the bowl depends on the temperature. I put my bowl in a
pot of hot water and it's ready to go in an hour or two. The amount of color also
depends on how much acid (usually lemon juice) you put in the mix.

4 hours is probably enough time on the hair. Sometimes I mix it in the early
evening and rinse it off before going to bed; sometimes I sleep with my head
wrapped up.
