A Question about Gelled Henna

It seems quite a few people have been going onto the gelled henna
mix, lately..
I was going to give it a go, with the henna I've got on my head now,
but didn't get chance to go out to try & find pectin, so I've just
got my normal henna mix on.

I understand that when pectin is added to your henna mix, the paste
goes further than it would with just a normal henna mix.. so my
question is, does a gelled henna mix give less colour than a normal
henna mix?
If you're not using as much henna, it would make sense to me, that
you'd get less colour.. but then, I know nothing about the whole
gelled henna thing..
I love the colour I get from a normal henna mix & wouldn't want
it 'watering down' any, by using gelled henna.. should I really be
messing with this lovely colour I'm getting?
