Couldn't it also be just dark hair with henna. I've never used
indigo, but when I henna my hair on about the third day it starts
going sort of burgandy to maroonish and after that it looks almost
like someone dyed black hair with really dark purple dye. Since the
people you are talking about do tend to have black hair, it could be
just the way their (and my) hair reacts to henna don't you think? Of
course, I'm in no way anywhere near the expert you are, I'm just
relating what I've seen in my own experience.
